The Urge To Show

My thinking pattern is contradictory when it comes to creating art. On one hand, I see each piece as a mark, a symbol of a specific moment. A moment that holds so much of ‘me’ within it. I really enjoy that aspect, and it’s how I usually work. On the other hand, I can’t help but analyze art in terms of its visual appeal, its meaning, its relevance to the world around it. It’s just a micro-thought I had to get out there.

Looking at the picture above, it simply shows the steps leading to the final artwork you’ll see below. It’s straightforward, yet I’m still unsure if I actually like it. I can’t pinpoint a valid reason why I wouldn’t. The only thing holding me back is the visual appeal – I don’t think it’s that strong. But that very thought bothers me, because in the same breath, I’m arguing against judging art through such a narrow lens. So, what is the ‘broad lens’ then?

And yet again, the idea of a ‘broad lens’ gets broken down into so many smaller dimensions.
I’m not confused, just trying to make you think how I think sometimes.
The broad view would be one that encompasses all views, or it could be a design view,
an aesthetic view, a rational view, an effort-driven view, an experience-based view,
the mastery view…

All I really want to do is show you the artwork, the one above. That’s it. The rest of it is just the urge to show
